Environmental Sustainability
Global warming is an issue that will increasingly affect all Australians. We recognise our responsibility to minimise our impact on the environment and promote environmental sustainability for future generations. The Observatory is implementing a range of energy, water and waste saving initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint. In 2008 The Observatory underwent an exhaustive on-site energy emissions audit carried out by independent Sydney-based environmental consultants the Carbon Reduction Institute (CRI).
The hotel formally committed to reduce its carbon emissions by 25 per cent in the current year and embarked on a program to become totally carbon-neutral over the coming three years, by June 30 2012. This program will be officially and rigidly monitored by CRI.
Working with local energy authorities and technical providers, The Observatory is progressively substituting carbon-emitting installations and practices with alternative, lower-energy options while maintaining a premium-quality standard of accommodation.
A feature of The Observatory's initiative is that it will not be asking guests to cover the financial commitment of moving to lower CO2. While some businesses ask patrons to pay an optional premium in order to purchase carbon offsets, The Observatory's owners themselves will bear the substantial cost of the hotel's initiative to move to environmentally-sound practices and minimise its climate-change impact.

In addition to our carbon neutral program, we've launched an Observatory O-Zone Package for guests to enjoy and contribute to the environment during their stay at The Observatory. Find out more!
