Heritage

A treasure trove of historic artefacts unearthed by The Observatory is on permanent display.

The artefacts were uncovered with the authority of the NSW Heritage Office and under supervision of leading archaeologist Professor John Appleton during construction of The Observatory six years ago.

Port Macquarie was a prominent centre of early colonial settlement and has a rich heritage and history.

The Observatory artefacts have now been professionally inventoried, restored, photographed and preserved and will be exhibited with authoritative interpretive panels.

The permanent display honours the town's historic past and will provide an interesting educational tour experience for both locals and visitors.
