Port Macquarie opens its arms to Mums and their daughters living with cancer!

THE OBSERVATORY CAMP QUALITY LADIES' PAMPER WEEKEND has won overwhelming support from the Port Macquarie community …

Warm-hearted Port Macquarie organisations and businesses have been generous in their support for The Observatory Camp Quality Ladies' Pamper Weekend, being held this weekend, Saturday May 31 and Sunday June 1, 2008.

Some 60 mums and their daughters are visiting Port Macquarie this weekend to enjoy a "girls' pampering" break at the beachside. The weekend has been arranged by Camp Quality, a group that assists families and their children living with cancer.

Visitors are coming to town from Coonabarabran, Tamworth, Armidale, Gilgai, Grafton, Fernleigh, Yorklea and Coffs Harbour and locally from Telegraph Point, West Kempsey, Wauchope, Bonny Hills and Port Macquarie for two days of R&R based at The Observatory, where they will enjoy complimentary pampering treatments and luxury accommodation, entertainment and dining.

Organiser and Observatory director Margaret Chant has been overwhelmed by the generosity of local businesses and organisations contributing to the event.

"This is the second year we've hosted Camp Quality for a weekend. Last year simply involved providing accommodation, but this year Port Macquarie has excelled itself in donating to create a truly wonderful weekend experience for our visitors.

"I'm so proud we have such a great welcoming community and I hope this marks the beginning of an annual fixture in Port's calendar.

"It's a 'girls' only' weekend and our visitors include mothers of daughters who are living with cancer, some of the mums' sisters or best friends, some girls living with cancer and some of their female siblings.

"They will have the chance to enjoy the pool and spa and pampering treatments in the Penthouse overlooking the beach, with therapeutic massages by both beauty therapy students and teachers from TAFE as well as staff of Endota Spa. There'll also be treated to deportment and grooming classes by Victoria's Modelling.

"We will be wining and dining the adults and the girls will enjoy a slumber party with karaoke, games and a movie. Craft workshops, a headland walk and other activities have also been arranged to give the mums and daughters and their companions and really relaxing and reinvigorating weekend.

"I'd like to thank everyone who has come forward to help with everything from a morning-tea welcome on the terrace to toys for the pool and gifts of glamorous magazines.

"Aside from those mentioned, they include the Hastings-Macleay Activity Group, McDonalds, Bago Vineyards, GHD Engineering, GWM Lawyers, Ken Little Fruit & Vegies, Ricardoes Tomatoes, Telegraph Point Retreat, Khodary's Pharmacy, Glasshouse Flowers, Clark Rubber, Modishe at Wauchope, Hunter Valley Wine Society, David Jones and News Limited."

* Camp Quality is committed to bringing hope and happiness to children living with cancer and their families through recreational, educational, hospital and financial support programs.

Camp Quality believes in the power of fun in helping children and their families overcome the challenges cancer brings - and in supporting the whole family: everyone in the family is affected by the stress cancer places on their lives. Family Camps, Mother & Daughter and Father & Son Weekends give families the opportunity to re-establish themselves as a family unit after being separated for long periods (from two to 18 months at a time) while their child undergoes treatment away from home in Sydney, Newcastle or Brisbane.
